1999: The ‘The Re-creation options for the River Severn/Avon floodplain wetlands’ document (English Nature, the Environment Agency and the RSPB, Ecoscope 1999) provided the basis for SAVWP’s strategic planning and the targeting of resources.

2000: The Severn and Avon Vales Wetlands Partnership (SAVWP) was established to create and sustain a mosaic of historic floodplain landscapes and wildlife through viable partnerships with landowners, farmers and local communities.
To achieve its aims the Partnership draws on the support and resources of statutory and voluntary organisations, from the environmental and agricultural sectors including; the Environment Agency, Natural England, The Wildlife Trusts, the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Groups (FWAG), National Farmers Union (NFU), the Association of Drainage Authorities (ADA), County and Local Councils, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (W&WT) and Severn Trent Water.

2000 – 2004: SAVWP has supported 79 Countryside Stewardship Scheme agreements, bringing 540 hectares of floodplain farmland into restoration as grazing marsh. This equates to Insert link to the pdf copy of the 05/06 annual report.

2003: SAVWP is established as “an unincorporated association”, enabling the Partnership to attract and manage funding from a wide variety of sources, in addition to existing contributors, to support core and project costs.
2005: The Higher Level Stewardship Scheme (HLS) is introduced by Defra creating greater scope for major wetland habitat restoration. The first agreements supported by SAVWP are signed in February 2006.
